Should I do thyroid function tests in empty stomach?

I have hypothyroidism for many years and taking Eltraxin tablet everyday. I have to go for thyroid function test frequently.

I have seen many different doctors over the last few years; some advise that the tests should be done early in the morning on empty stomach. Others say anytime is okay.

Can you help me with this?

    Lightbulb No fasting required

Thyroid function tests include: TSH, T4 and T3 estimations. All these tests may be measured any time of the day without need for fasting.

However, if you are also planning to do other tests like blood glucose or lipid (cholesterol) estimations at the same time, you will be required to give blood sample in fasting state.

Though the levels of TSH may vary slightly during the day, they are not significant enough to affect monitoring efficacy.
