EXAMINATION OF DIABETIC FOOT

INSPECTION
-Check for any ulcer, dryness of foot, cracks, corn, evidence of gangrene.

EXAMINATION
Check for peripheral pulses –dorsalis pedis and posterior tibial
Check for evidence of neuropathy
-vibration sense (128Hz)
-position sense
-crude touch , fine touch
-pain
-temperature

Deep tendon reflex
-knee jerk
-ankle jerk

Advice patient to keep foot clean, wear closed shoe as to avoid injury, to seek for medical attention if he/she has any injury to the foot, and exercise to increase blood supply to the feet.
