• About MEDiscuss

Thanks for taking the time to visit this website and for reading this page. MEDiscuss is a passionate project in progress for me and a playing field for all my technical and teaching instincts.

There are three sections in MEDiscuss.
    1. Articles: Articles written by medical professionals, primarily aimed at medical students
    2. Discussions: A discussion forum that is divided into 3 zones - student zone, public zone and professional zone. Anybody can participate in asking questions, answering and sharing information. The information provided on MEDiscuss is designed to support, not replace, the relationship that exists between a patient/site visitor and his/her existing physician.
    3. Blogs: Personal views expressed by the members in various fields, primarily related to medicine.
I have developed this website over a period of many years, playing around with various web publishing platforms available. Being in active Clinical Medicine practice and also pursuing one’s interest in technology is not easy, as both require tremendous amount of time. I have spent considerable amount of time (and money) playing around with various open source and commercial web applications including Joomla!, Wordpress, SMF, phpBB, vBulletin and Moodle. While doing so, I have also contributed to some of these platforms in my own way.

MEDiscuss was originally based on Joomla for content, vBulletin for forum and Wordpress for blogs. Recently, I have ported the entire site to the vBulletin Suite that has all the above functions in one, making it easier for me to maintain and providing a seamless experience for all users.

If you would like to contribute to this website, you just have to register, login and start posting! Please be responsible in choosing what you write. MEDiscuss reserves the right to delete any misinformation and inappropriate content.

Source of funding and conflicts of interest: This website is funded by myself and supplemented by some advertisements posted on the content pages. There are no conflicts of interest to the best of my knowledge.

    Update: MEDiscuss is HONCode certified.
HONcode is the oldest and the most used ethical and trustworthy code for medical and health related information available on Internet. The HON Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organization, internationally known for its pioneering work in the field of health information ethics, notably for the establishment of its code of ethical conduct, the HONcode.
